Pennant Season 2010/11 Looms

MEMORANDUM

TO:                   All Club Members

DATE:                12th August 2010

SUBJECT:           Various Pennant Matters

FROM:               Chairman of Selectors & Men’s President

As the Pennant Season 2010/11 is rapidly approaching, it is necessary to clarify a few issues with all Members of our Club.

Rules, guidelines and policy decisions are made to ensure an efficient and effective Club with the benefits being derived by the majority. With this in mind we ask for the co-operation of all concerned.

*      Pennant Teams are selected on either Monday or Tuesday evening and appear on our website (www.easternparklawnbowls.com) almost instantly.

*      Bowlers who are unavailable for any particular round should clearly show their name on the list provided for this purpose (before Monday evening) and should take care that it is entered for the correct date and round.

*      Bowlers who find they are unable to play after teams have been selected must personally notify one of the Selectors (preferably the Chairman of Selectors). It is unacceptable as a means of communication to:

·         Send a message via another person

·         Leave a telephone message

·         Send a SMS (Text Message)

·         Remove name from Team Selection Board

*      Notification of unavailability to a Selector should be done at the earliest possible time.

*      All Pennant Bowlers are instructed to take three bowls to every Pennant game. Each bowl must be from the one set and must have the Eastern Park "Bowls Rings" secured.

*      The Rules relating to practice on the day of Pennant have been changed once more. It is (again) illegal for team members to practice on the rinks which have been allocated for their Pennant game. Practice will now only be permitted, up to 12 midday, on rinks other than those reserved for the particular team. Any member in doubt should clarify this with an Umpire or a member of the Committee of Management before attempting to practice.

*      Our “Best Player” voting system is considered as good as you can get; however, its worth is totally dependant on serious, fair and well considered input by all. It is unfair on fellow members if the votes are not taken seriously and not given conscientiously.  The “Norm Atkins” Best Player award is a prestigious award…..let’s keep it that way.

*      The policy, philosophy and criteria utelised by the current Selectors is somewhat diverse but perhaps can be best summed up by saying teams are selected with the view of achieving the best overall outcome for the Club in general.  At times, this may be in conflict with the wishes and aspirations of individual bowlers, however, it is hoped that on most occasions most people will understand, after the “bigger picture” has been considered.  Whatever, the Selectors cannot second guess the reaction of every bowler and they most certainly do not have the time to contact every person who may be aggrieved.

*      Bowlers who continue to have a genuine grievance with “selection” (or any other related matter) should formally make this known to the Selection Committee, preferably through the Chairman. The matter will be dealt with by Selection Committee as expeditiously as possible. It should be noted that rude, offensive, sarcastic or derogatory comments will not be tolerated.

*      Leading into the Pennant Season a number of events will be held.

·         On the 4th September we will conduct our “Open Day”… a tournament for members only with valuable trophies and $750 prize money on offer.

·         On the 11th September a practice match against the R.S.L will be held at Eastern Park.

·         On the 18th September a practice match against Drumcondra will be held at Eastern Park.

·         It is possible we will hold some event (early) on the 25th September….details will follow.

We ask that all members join in, if at all possible, and help make these occasions a success.

The aspirations and expectations for season 2010/11 are to build on the success of last season and thus we ask for the co-operation and support of each and every member in order to attain these goals.
