A GREAT EFFORT
|
The Eastern Park Evening Pennant team headed off to Bareena with a
testing mission. If they were to be the winners of their Section and
proceed to the finals they needed to defeat Belmont by a hefty margin in
order to stay in front of Bareena.
To say they were successful is a bit of an understatement. The team of
Garry Bowyer, Jim Hyatt, Keith Matthews and Aaron Hyatt (Skip) were
never in trouble and cruised to a comfortable victory 26 shots to 12.
The other crew of Geoff Rivett, Troy Thomson, Ken Petzierides and Nathan
Sheills (Skip) also had an emphatic win 25 shots to 8.
Although Bareena won their match, the 17 shot margin they had fell well
short of our boys 31 shot victory, leaving Eastern Park clear winners of
Section 3.
Next week we venture to Leopold to contest the Semi Final, with our
likely opponent being Geelong West. This will be a huge undertaking but
you can be certain our lads will not shirk their task.

OUR LADS ON TOP
|
|
With just one round to go before the Evening Pennant Finals our team has forged it's way to the top of the ladder. This week Eastern Park were drawn against Ocean Grove and the team of Garry Bowyer, Jim Hyatt, Keith Matthews and Aaron Hyatt after a tough game eventually triumphed 16 shots to 12. On the other rink Geoff Rivett, Troy Thomson Ken Petzierides and Nathan Sheills were never in doubt and blitzed their opposition 27 shots to 6. There will be no relaxing for our
guys though as they must win again next week and by a hefty margin to
ensure they are the Section winners. Our opponents will be Belmont and
the venue will be Bareena. This will be a difficult assignment, but
there is an air of quiet confidence wafting around the camp.

PARKERS STILL ALIVE IN EVENING PENNANT
|
|
Despite most of our guys being pretty exhausted after playing 36 ends in
the Norm & Graham Atkins Memorial Tournament in the afternoon, they
fronted up again at 5.30 that evening and did the club proud in another
decisive win in Round 3 of the Evening Pennant.
The team of Geoff Rivett, Damien Hyatt, Jim Hyatt and Aaron Hyatt (S)
after getting away to great start, had a comfortable win 15 shots to 9.
Our other team of Troy Thomson, Steve Petzierides, Ken Petzierides and
Keith Matthews (S) put on an even better show, never giving Barwon Heads
a look in. They scampered away with a 29 shots to 10 win.
The Section winner is now confined to Leopold who were granted a
walkover this round, Bareena who bounced back well after the defeat at
our hands in Round 2 and Eastern Park. The result could well come down
to the last round and may be decided by shots up. We can only keep on
winning to give ourselves a great chance.

OH WHAT A NIGHT IT WAS
|
|
It really was.
In the second round of Evening Pennant Eastern Park had the formidable
task of coming up against Bareena, the "Division One" clear Ladder
Leaders.
Eastern Park was represented by Geoff Rivett, Bob Watson, Ken
Petzierides and Nathan Sheills (Skip) in one team and Garry Bowyer, Jim
Hyatt, Keith Matthews and Aaron Hyatt (Skip) in the other.
Our guys were quietly confident of putting on a good show and it is fair
to say the Bareena teams skipped by Travis Kelly and Nick Doyle were
exuding an air of complete confidence, to say the least.
Nathan’s team began well but had a bit of a slump in the middle of the
game. They then found their true form and began to peg back the sizeable
lead held by Nick Doyle’s team and in fact with one bowl to play they
had regained the lead, but Doyle produced a pearler and his team grabbed
a win by three shots.
On the other rink Aaron’s team was having a dour struggle with the score
being 3 all after five ends. It was then that our boys moved into top
gear and their performance was a sight to behold. In the next eight ends
Eastern Park scored 18 shots to Bareena’s one and the game was signed
sealed and delivered. Aaron’s team went on to win 22 shots to 9.
This impressive overall win to Eastern Park by 10 shots has not only put
us back in the running for the Evening Pennant, but it has stamped our
club as a significant force wherever we appear.
